Poyao Shih

Poyao Shih is the founder of POSITION based in Brooklyn, New York. He is also the visiting assistant professor at Pratt Institute Graduate Architecture and Urban Design. He is interested in combining advanced spatial ideas with existing urban conditions. He considers architecture’s theoretical discourse of form, program, and representation to be as crucial as its concerns for social context.

Poyao holds a Bachelor’s degree from the SCI-Arc in 2016 and a Master’s degree in architecture from Harvard GSD in 2019.

Since 2011, Poyao has worked for various offices worldwide, including Kengo Kuma Association, Oyler Wu Collaborative, Coop Himmelblau, and Morphosis. He has previously served as a teaching assistant at SCI-Arc, a research assistant at Harvard GSD. He was a lecturer for several workshops in Taiwan and was a final jury at SARUP at UW Milwaukee, Pratt Institute, and Chung-Yuan University. His academic works and articles have been widely published in Suckerpunch Daily, Archidog, Taiwan Architecture, and Architect Magazine in Taiwan.
